Ocean Current Lab 10.27.11
Draw Observations of the movement of the yeast and water.
Write your observations of the movement of the yeast and water.
When I blew on the water, the yeast moved out, then in circular patterns.
1. If the water represents the ocean, and your blowing through the straw represents wind, what does this model show about the effect of wind on the surface of the ocean?
It shows that the water moves in circular patterns when wind is blown in it in one direction.
2. Based on your observations, how do you think the wind causes surface ocean currents?
It changes the direction of the ocean waters, pushing it in the direction of the wind. The water is pushed and then forms circular patterns on each side.
3. What affect will the winds have on the direction of the currents in the different latitudes of Earth?
Since the wind on different latitudes of the Earth are blowing in different directions, the ocean waters will be moved in different directions too.
