Area 1:
Longitude: -98.83327
Latitude: 30.50179
1. Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of land forms.
There are a few mountainous areas, but most of the land is flat. A hilly area with two streams, and little elevation change.
2. What features can be identified in both the satellite view (actual photo) and the topographic map?
There is on area of mountains, and on the topographic map the lines are close together there. You can see the streams too.
Area 2:
Longitude: -94.93405
Latitude: 29.23140
3. Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of land forms.
Galveston is a sandbar and the land is really flat, so there is very little elevation change.
4. What features can be identified in both the satellite view (actual photo) and the topographic map?
You can only see the flat land.
Area 3:
Longitude: -103.25897
Latitude: 29.24157
5. Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of land forms.
There are many mountains and there is a lot of elevation change, lots of drainage areas.
6. What features can be identified in both the satellite view (actual photo) and the topographic map?
You can clearly see the mountains on the two maps.
Area 4:
Longitude: -101.79047
Latitude: 34.84273
7. Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of land forms.
This land is extremely flat and there are farms, areas of depression, and a stream.
8. What features can be identified in both the satellite view (actual photo) and the topographic map?
You can see the farms and the plain flat land and the stream.
Area 5:
Longitude: -101.61660
Latitude: 34.87547
9. Describe this area in terms of changes in elevation and types of land forms.
There are very steep mountains in this canyon area., along with a stream.
10. What features can be identified in both the satellite view (actual photo) and the topographic map?
You can see the features of the mountains and the steepness of them. You can also see the stream.
11. Which areas are basically flat? What is your evidence?
There are a few flat areas, like where the creek flows. You can tell because there are no contour lines showing rapid elevation changes.
12. Which area is probably a canyon? What is your evidence?
Area 5. The place where the creek flows has a lot of contour lines on either side of it. The lines are close together, so you can tell that there is a rapid increase in elevation at these points.
13. Which areas are good for rock climbing and repelling? What is your evidence?
Areas 1, 3, and 5. The steep canyon walls could be good for rock-climbing because the elevation increases a lot there.
14. Which area is being used for farming? What is your evidence?
Area 4 is good for farming because of the flat land.
15. Which area could be described as a mountainous area? What is your evidence?
Anywhere other than the canyon walls where there are many contour lines are mountains.
16. Which area has marshes? What is your evidence?
Area 2 because of the depressions.
17. How does having both a topographic map and a satellite view (aerial photo) help in analyzing an area?
On the topographic map you can see the elevation changes, and on the satellite view you can see the features, vegetation, and streams.. So you need both to know what land feature is there and what the elevation is.
